As an <strong>Executive Director, Global Commercial Learning and Development (Focus on Sales & Marketing)</strong>, at Gilead you will be responsible for leading this global function to drive impact, optimize resources and best practices in a global with local operating model, enhancing world-class capabilities across the entire Gilead Portfolio. The successful candidate will have deep expertise in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry, the learning and development discipline, and a proven track record as people leader and influencer of cross-functional and global teams.<br><br>Reporting to the Vice President, Global Commercial Operations (GCO) and serving as a member of the GCO Leadership Team, this role is accountable for setting the global strategy and execution for Commercial Learning and Development. The Executive Director will lead a team of global learning professionals and partner closely with regional, affiliate, and global stakeholders to deliver scalable, impactful learning solutions that enable sales, marketing, and commercial operations teams worldwide.<br><br><strong>This role is site</strong><strong>‑</strong><strong>based in Foster City, California and requires periodic international travel.<br><br></strong><strong>Key Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To<br><br></strong><ul><li>Lead Gilead’s global Commercial Learning and Development function, defining strategy and execution to enhance commercial capability across regions and affiliates.</li><li>Develop and implement a global Commercial Learning and Development strategy, including the rollout of a global marketing excellence learning academy, advancement of commercial sales leadership programs, and refinement of standardized sales competency models.</li><li>Partner with global, regional, and affiliate commercial leaders, including the top nine market‑facing affiliates—to assess business needs and cocreate learning priorities that support organizational objectives and business growth.</li><li>Establish clear goals, governance, and operating rhythms for the function, ensuring transparency in prioritization, resourcing, and alignment with business strategy.</li><li>Advance learning operations and technology by defining competency frameworks and role‑based learning journeys for commercial personnel, including field sales, field leadership, marketing, and commercial operations.</li><li>Ensure learning solutions are globally consistent while enabling appropriate local customization to address regional and affiliate needs.</li><li>Drive continuous improvement through measurement of learning effectiveness, use of analytics, and adoption of innovative learning methodologies.</li><li>Collaborate closely with regional and functional learning organizations, including U.S. Commercial Learning and Development, G9 affiliate learning teams, and Medical Affairs learning partners.</li><li>Partner with Procurement to assess and optimize the use of external vendors, learning investments, and budgets.</li><li>Build trusted relationships with senior leaders and cross‑functional stakeholders and contribute to broader Global Commercial Operations strategy as a member of the GCO Leadership Team.</li><li>Strong leadership and self-direction, comfort and experience tackling very ambiguous and complex problems. Must be able to lead others as well as do own work.</li><li>Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to lead, interact with, focus, negotiate, influence and resolve challenges to drive consensus among individuals from a variety of cultures and disciplines; proven ability to lead collaborative and creative problem solving and overcome resistance or barriers<br><br></li></ul><strong>Basic Qualifications<br><br></strong>Bachelor's Degree and Fourteen Years’ Experience<br><br>OR<br><br>Masters' Degree and Twelve Years’ Experience<br><br>OR<br><br>PhD and Twelve Years’ Experience<br><br><strong>Preferred Qualifications<br><br></strong><ul><li>12+ years of experience with an MS/MBA in the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, or healthcare industry, including progressively increasing responsibilities in commercial roles.</li><li>Experience leading and developing teams within a complex, global organization.</li><li>Direct experience in Commercial Learning and Development within the biopharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.</li><li>Demonstrated executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and deliver learning to large, global audiences.</li><li>Experience leading global, cross‑functional initiatives in ambiguous and evolving environments.</li><li>Strong program, project, and change management capabilities, including the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.</li><li>Experience leveraging learning technologies, analytics, and innovative methodologies to improve capability and performance.<br><br></li></ul><strong>People Leader Accountabilities<br><br></strong><ul><li>Create Inclusion - knowing the business value of diverse teams, modeling inclusion, and embedding the value of diversity in the way they manage their teams.</li><li>Develop Talent - understand the skills, experience, aspirations, and potential of their employees and coach them on current performance and future potential. They provide the support needed to remove barriers and connect their team to the broader ecosystem.<br><br></li></ul>The salary range for this position is: $281,010.00 - $363,660.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
