Garden Center & Nursery Associates

About Marbott's Greenhouse & Nursery

Marbott's has been part of Portland's gardening community for more than 90 years, serving generations of gardeners with plants grown and selected for this region. Under new ownership, we're refreshing the property and expanding our plant offerings. It’s an exciting time to be a part of Marbott’s!

We grow much of what we sell on site, including seasonal annuals, vegetable starts, hanging baskets, perennials, and houseplants, with a growing emphasis on native plants. This gives our staff the chance to be hands-on with plants throughout the growing process, not just on the retail side.

Our team is known for being approachable, knowledgeable, and generous with their time. We're a working nursery where customers can expect thoughtful selection, practical advice, and a welcoming place to return to throughout the year.

The Role

We’re hiring full-time and part-time retail associates to join our team seasonally, at least through June. This is primarily a retail-facing role—you’ll spend most of your time on the sales floor helping customers, running the register, and keeping displays well-stocked and looking their best. On occasion, you’ll also be asked to support basic plant health tasks such as watering and monitoring for problems.

What You'll Do

Customer Service

  • Greet customers and help them navigate the nursery
  • Answer questions and suggest plants that meet customers' needs, preferences, and growing conditions
  • Work at the register, helping customers check out their purchases
  • Helping answer customer phone calls
Plant Health Support
  • Water plants according to established schedules and needs
  • Monitor plants for signs of pests or disease and report concerns to growers
  • Move, space, and restock plants throughout the nursery
General Operations
  • Receive and unload plant and merchandise deliveries
  • Help maintain plant display areas
  • Assist with facility cleaning and general upkeep
What We're Looking For
  • General familiarity with common types of plants at the nursery is a must, but you will learn more about specific plants quickly once you are working on site
  • A genuine interest in plants and helping customers succeed with them
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to manage tasks without constant supervision
  • Work well as part of a small team and communicates clearly
  • Friendly, patient demeanor with customers of all experience levels
  • Comfortable with physical work, including lifting up to 50 pounds, and working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Pay & Benefits
  • $16–$20 per hour, depending on experience
  • Employee discount on plants and supplies
Pay: $16.50 - $20.00 per hour
