The Construction Manager reviews and provides technical input regarding scope, budget, schedule, and compliance throughout all phases of the project, provides general oversight of all construction activities, builds, and maintains relationships with clients.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for safety and quality of work performed within the construction services team
  • Tracks expenditures trends and approves invoices within budgetary guidelines
  • Authorizes company expenditures related to construction activities
  • Handles customer and contractor problems related to construction
  • Maintains open communications with other departments
  • Analyzes needs and designs for construction projects
  • Establishes positive employee relations through effective communication and ongoing support
  • Provides training and verification for staff’s written documentation of daily activities, site conditions, etc.
  • Demonstrates initiative in identifying potential issues, takes steps to determine solutions, and implements selected steps
  • Works with members of the Construction Services team to address issues and tackle obstacles
  • Provides occasional assistance with field tasks to support projects and address temporary needs
  • Leads continuous improvement programs throughout the department
  • Provides regular consultation to other members of the department
  • Maintains client relationships and establishes new ones through business development activities
  • Engages clients and potential clients to identify future opportunities for work

Experience

  • 12+ years’ experience with construction inspection or construction trades
  • Construction management experience preferred
  • Experience with a public agency, one of our clients or another consulting firm preferred
  • Prior experience with construction inspection under state DOT requirements preferred

Skills

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Delivers exceptional customer service
  • Proficient in time management and a self-starter
  • Has a reliable personal vehicle that is available for daily use to travel to job sites
  • Physical working requirements:
    • Ability to do occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
    • Able to walk up/down stairs
    • Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends (including overnight stays)
    • Subject to outside environmental conditions occasionally

Education

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • KDOT Inspection certification required
  • Additional experience in engineering, drafting, survey, and/or construction management is a plus
