This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Global Head of Facilities and Occupational Safety.

You will:

  • Set Global Strategy: Own Waymo’s short- and long-term EHS objectives, providing oversight and guidance for all aspects of Waymo’s environmental, health, and safety program.
  • Drive Digital Transformation: Act as the global business owner for EHS management software (e.g., Enablon, Cority, or similar), managing its implementation, configuration, and data integrity.
  • Lead and Mentor: Manage a team of six direct reports, navigating them through organizational change and growing future leaders through active mentorship and technical guidance.
  • Innovate Risk Management: Develop and lead innovative approaches and tools to overcome organizational barriers, introducing new methods to manage EHS risks globally to unlock business growth.
  • Govern Metrics & Policy: Own the development of global policies and performance metrics, utilizing EHS software to provide real-time data insights and reports for executive leadership.

 

You have:

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Occupational Health, Engineering, or a related field; 12+ years of progressive EHS management experience, with 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Software Leadership: Proven experience leading the selection, global rollout, and administration of enterprise-level EHS software platforms to drive proactive safety cultures.
  • Strategic Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage medium-to-large teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders by identifying trade-offs and multi-faceted risks.
  • Change Management Skills: Experience simplifying complex interfaces between teams or processes to set up an organization for global scalability and growth.
  • Regulatory & Industry Presence: Ability to represent Waymo with external authorities and translate business needs into actionable, compliant, and audacious safety initiatives.
  • Mission Alignment: A commitment to the Waymo Way, serving as a consistent role model for our behaviors—acting like an owner and staying humble—even in challenging situations.

 

We prefer:

  • Industry Background: Experience in the autonomous vehicle, robotics, aerospace, or high-tech hardware manufacturing sectors.
  • Advanced Certification: Professional credentials such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH).
  • Digital Integration: Experience transitioning an organization from manual/disparate tracking to a centralized, cloud-based EHS management system.
  • Global Scope: Prior experience managing EHS programs across multiple regions (EMEA, APAC, etc.) and navigating international regulatory frameworks.
  • Educational Foundation: Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Business Acumen: Ability to present safety data as a business driver to C-suite executives, demonstrating how safety excellence supports overall operational velocity.

Travel:

  • Approximately 25% travel required.

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the role location or, if the role can be performed remote, the specific salary range for your preferred location, during the hiring process. 

Waymo employees are also eligible to participate in Waymo’s discretionary annual bonus program, equity incentive plan, and generous Company benefits program, subject to eligibility requirements.
