The US base salary range for this full-time position is provided below:

Salary Range: $110,000 - $300,000

L5: $110,000 - $220,000
L6: $150,000 - $300,000


The range represents the amount bnsf | tech reasonably expects to pay for the position based on the level, scope, and responsibilities of the role. Individual compensation and level of position offered is determined by the hiring location and additional factors including but not limited to job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. In addition to base pay and bonus eligibility, BNSF offers a comprehensive benefits package.

This is a full-time remote position. Employees may work from anywhere within the contiguous 48 states of the United States


Travel is up to 20%.
Employees will be required to occasionally travel to our corporate headquarters in Fort Worth, TX for in person meetings. Travel expenses for business needs will be covered by BNSF.


This position is open to candidates who are currently authorized to work in the United States. We are also open to sponsoring H-1B transfers, TN nonimmigrant status, and STEM OPT candidates with at least 2 years of remaining eligibility.

As a Software Engineering Manager or Staff Software Engineering Manager (SAP Platform Manager), you will lead and mentor engineering teams across a variety of SAP technical domains. You will drive architectural decisions, ensure engineering excellence, and deliver innovative solutions that impact core freight movement operations. You will serve as a key technical leader responsible for the strategy, governance, and delivery of SAP platforms, collaborating cross-functionally with infrastructure, security, compliance, and business stakeholders to align SAP capabilities with organizational goals.

We are seeking experienced SAP professionals with broad technical expertise across the SAP ecosystem. Candidates will be aligned to specific technical areas based on their strengths and experience. The ideal candidate will demonstrate proficiency in one or more of the following domains:


Key responsibilities may include:


Lead, mentor, and grow
a team of SAP engineers and developers, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Define and drive SAP platform strategy, architecture, and roadmap in alignment with enterprise technology goals and business requirements.

Oversee the design, development, configuration, and maintenance of SAP solutions across relevant functional and technical domains.

Partner with business stakeholders, solution architects, and cross-functional teams to translate requirements into scalable, reliable SAP solutions.

Ensure SAP platform health, performance, and stability through governance frameworks, change management practices, and operational standards.

Manage the full project lifecycle for SAP initiatives, including planning, resource allocation, delivery, and post-go-live support.

Collaborate with security, GRC, and compliance teams to ensure SAP environments meet internal controls and regulatory requirements.

Drive continuous improvement in SAP development practices, tooling, automation, and platform operations.

Provide technical leadership and guidance during SAP upgrades, migrations, and implementations.

Establish and maintain SAP platform documentation, standards, and best practices.

Demonstrate operational excellence by monitoring, troubleshooting, and resolving production issues, including participating in a 24/7 on‑call rotation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Minimum 6+ years of progressive experience working within the SAP ecosystem, with demonstrated depth in SAP platform engineering, architecture, or solution delivery.
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical leadership, people management, or platform ownership role leading SAP engineers, developers, or functional delivery teams.
  • Hands on experience with one or more SAP domains, such as:
    • SAP S/4HANA, ECC environments, BTP and cloud‑based SAP services
    • SAP GRC and Security
    • SAP development frameworks (ABAP, integrations, extensions)
    • SAP functional platforms supporting Finance, HR, or Procurement,
  • Experience overseeing end‑to‑end SAP initiatives, including design, build, testing, deployment, stabilization, or ongoing operations.
  • Experience driving continuous improvement in engineering practices, automation, standardization, and operational excellence.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Able to work now and in the future without BNSF’s assistance (whether monetary, through sponsorship, or otherwise) in obtaining, maintaining, or extending employment authorization (including H-1B, STEM OPT/CPT, or TN nonimmigrant status).
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Familiarity with SAP's broader platform ecosystem, including cloud, on-premise, and hybrid deployment models.
  • Experience with SAP integration technologies and connectivity with enterprise systems.
  • Knowledge of SAP security, authorization concepts, and compliance frameworks.
  • Understanding of Identity & Access Management (IAM) and enterprise directory services as they relate to SAP environments.
  • SAP certifications in relevant modules, platforms, or technical areas.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, or freight operations environments is a plus.
